Gruber Marinara Sauce

Marinara sauce can be used in so many things - pizza, pasta, sandwiches, chicken, the list goes on. This recipe is a family hand-me-down that has undergone years of trials and testing to update and perfect. Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

  1.  San Marzano peeled tomatoes - 28 oz can

  2.  Tomato paste - 6 oz

  3.  Extra virgin olive oil - 2 tablespoons

  4.  4 cloves garlic, chopped 

  5.  ½ white onion, chopped 

  6.  Salt - 2 teaspoons

  7.  Sugar - 2 teaspoons

  8.  Parsley, fresh/chopped - 1 teaspoon

  9.  Basil, fresh/chopped - 1 teaspoon

  10.  Optional - ½ teaspoon each of cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes

  11.  ½ cup starch water

  12.  Splash of red wine

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Directions

  • Sauté the garlic and onion in a pan with olive oil for 5-10 minutes.
  • Blend the can of tomatoes down to a creamy consistency - I use a hand-blender and blend right in the can. Click here for the blender I bought on Amazon. Cheap, and gets used VERY often!
  •  Add all ingredients into a large pot and bring to a boil while mixing. Turn down heat to a simmer and let cook for 25 minutes. Make sure to keep stirring every 5 minutes or so to ensure the sauce doesn't burn on the bottom of the pot.
  • Optional - separately brown up and separate about 1/4 cup each of ground beef and spicy Italian sausage in a pan and add to the simmering sauce for a delicious meat sauce, perfect for spaghetti!
