Gruber Family Meatloaf
Everyone's got a meatloaf recipe. This is ours. I've played with lots of different ingredients and so can you. This is our baseline that never fails to impress.
Ingredients
-
1 lb. ground beef
-
1 lb. hot Italian sausage (without casing)
-
1 egg
-
1/2 white onion, diced
-
4 cloves garlic, diced
-
1/4 cup ketchup
-
1/4 cup barbeque sauce
-
1/4 cup mustard
-
1-2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
1/4 cup milk
-
1.5 cups of Italian breadcrumbs
-
1 teaspoon each; salt and pepper
-
2 tablespoons brown sugar
-
2 tablespoons fresh parsley

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 60 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour and 20 minutes

Yield: 4-6 servings
Directions
-
Preheat oven to 350*
-
Put your ground beef and Italian sausage into a mixing bowl raw.
-
Add egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, barbeque sauce, milk, mustard, Worcestershire sauce breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, brown sugar, and herbs to bow.
-
Mix all together with your hand until it becomes fully combined.
-
The consistency should be that of meatballs. If it's too watery, add some more breadcrumbs. If it's too dry, add a few dashes of milk. Ultimately, you want this to be able to form to a loaf and stay together in the dish.
-
Oil up a 9x12 glass cooking dish and dump the meat mixture into it.
-
Form the 'loaf' with your hands - however you prefer.
-
Bake for 50 minutes uncovered.
-
Remove and spread some barbeque sauce on the top of the loaf. Return to the oven for another 10 minutes or so, until the internal temp. reaches 160*F. Switch oven to broil and let broil for 1-2 minutes.
-
Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
-
Enjoy!
